Strengthen Live: A Community for Emotion Discovery Practitioners
Two women sitting in comfortable chairs talking.

When I first began coaching, I knew that I had so much more to learn. I also knew that helping others sift through their emotions, manage and respond to their feelings was something I wanted to specialise in more.

I did some professional development training on emotion coaching and training school communities and practitioners. It fit well alongside my coaching psychology and positive psychology post-graduate skills and knowledge. But it was really the beginning of my professional emotion discovery coaching journey - and my personal one too.

When I trained as a neuroaffirmative practitioner and in the world's first cohort of Advanced AuDHD Coaching Practitioners (that's working with people with Autistic and ADHD traits), I discovered the word "alexithymia". Not only that, but my journey into emotion discovery understanding and coaching got much deeper.

Alexithymia happens when people have difficulty recognising, naming, talking about and responding to their emotional experiences and feelings. Many people experience it. It's also an interesting fact that many people who are skilled at interpreting other people's feelings can have difficulty processing their own. There are different aspects to alexithymia and it shows up differently in each individual and different situations they find themselves in.

I began to use a feelings wheel with clients but found it didn't quite suit the holistic conversations I was having. I kept apologising for the bold colours and the overwhelm of all the words on them. After all, it wasn't just my clients who felt overhelmed by them, I did too.

When I approached a graphic designer to create a more muted and accessible version of a feelings wheel, I was in for a big surprise! I discovered that what I really wanted and needed was a new visual tool that better reflected the breadth and depth of conversations I was having with clients about their feelings, desires and emotional experiences.

We were talking about their body, sensations, their values, their past, their wishes and the many feelings and experiences that feed into our emotional understanding. That's how the Strengthen Emotion Discovery Wheel™ was born.

I then discovered that there are so many highly skilled and trained practitioners out there who also want to know more about how to have constructive emotion discovery conversations with clients.

It's not that I believe I know it all. I don't. Just as you don't too. But I do believe in the power of professional communities. When we hold space together, practice our skills together and have respectful, interesting conversations about how we integrate what we're learning into our professional practice.

So that's what I'm offering you and inviting you to here.
